A SPECIAL DESIGN FOR OZONATED WATER
GC Valves now offers a limited line of electrically actuated ball valves that are specifically designed for ozone applications. 1/2" & 3/4" NPT versions are stocked at our Charlotte manufacturing facility. This upgrade to our B20 Series features stainless steel and soft seals that resist attack by ozone.
DO YOU OFFER AUTOMATIC CONDENSATE DRAIN KITS FOR PNEUMATIC SYSTEMS?
Yes, our H2O-GO products are intended to automatically drain condensate from air systems. The automatic control is a DIN timer (T4510) which can be adjusted for as much as 45 minutes off and up to 10 seconds on. A normally closed solenoid valve with DIN housing is energized by the timer. A 6 foot cord with 110ac plug (C4010-GRN1) can provide power from a standard wall outlet. And a combination ball valve/strainer protects the valve from entrained solids and isolates the valve for maintenance.

DO YOUR SOLENOID VALVES MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE 2014 U.S. SAFE DRINKING WATER ACT?
Yes. GC Valves manufactures stainless steel solenoid valves from 1/8” to 2” NPT that do not contain lead.
We also manufacture solenoid valves with Noryl bodies from 3/8” to 1” that do not contain lead. Many of these
valves also carry NSF 61 certification for “Drinking Water System Components”.
"Lead free" legislation in the U.S. relates to any pipe, pipe or plumbing fitting, or fixture intended to convey or dispense water for drinking or cooking. For these products, "lead free" means not more than a weighted average lead content of 0.25 percent.
California and Vermont had already enacted "lead
free" legislation. The U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act made this a national requirement in January 2014.

SOLENOID VALVE ELECTRICAL INFORMATION
SENSIBLE PRECAUTIONS FOR ELECTRICAL & CONTROL
Solenoid valves can be economical solutions to flow control requirements. And they are easy to maintain. But any electro-mechanical device has limitations.
Here are a few choices that might add to your comfort level when applying solenoid valves:
1 -- specify DIN coils and connectors to simplify assembly and reduce installation time
2 -- investigate the use of rectified coils if "ac hum" is a concern, especially in residential installations
3-- consider DIN electrical connectors with integral surge suppression to protect control electronics
4 -- use lighted DIN connectors to simplify troubleshooting
5 -- evaluate magnetic latching coils for battery operation or when heat generated by the solenoid valve coil is a concern.
And be sure to ask your distributor or region manager about the availability of manual override if valve operation is required when power is interrupted.

EXPLOSION PROOF HOUSINGS
Most solenoid valves from GC Valves are available with explosion proof housings: they are rated NEMA 7, Class I, Groups C & D; Class II, Groups E, F, & G, Division 1 and 2.
These classifications refer to explosive mixtures that may be in the atmosphere around the valve, not the gases etc. that flow through the valve. The explosion proof housing is designed to prevent an explosion of dust or gases in the atmosphere outside of the valve.

GC VALVES INCREASES
FLEXIBILITY IN 24VAC SOLENOID VALVES
Responding to customer requests, GC Valves has standardized on a more widely applicable 24vac coil design.
24vac valves using S3 and S4 coils are now shipping with voltage code “24”: 24V/60HZ 24V/50HZ. For no difference in operating pressures, the “24” coil cuts inventory requirements for companies that provide products to both 60HZ and 50HZ countries.
The S3 and S4 coils are used on S20, S21, S30, S31, S33, and S40 solenoid valves (and related “H” or “NS” versions)
with all housings. Voltage code “01” coils (24V 60HZ) that were replaced by the “24” are still available as a special order.
SHADING RINGS FOR AC VOLTAGES
Solenoid valves that operate on AC power required a non-magnetic element in the plunger head. We typically build brass and Noryl bodied valves with copper shading rings; stainless steel valves normally have a silver shading ring. The shading ring is intended to prevent the buzz or chatter caused by the zero voltage cross-over point in the AC cycle. DC voltage solenoid valves do not require the shading ring, which is why the entire operator must be replaced when changing a DC valve over to AC power.
DIN LIGHTED CONNECTORS
Most of our solenoid valves can be built with “International tab” or DIN coils. This world-wide standard allows many options for wiring and built-in electronics. Among the most popular is the lighted connector which incorporates an LED to indicate that power is supplied to the DIN connector. It can be a valuable tool during factory test, field installation, and trouble-shooting.

OUTSTANDING 3-WAY SOLENOID VALVE PERFORMANCE
Direct Acting 3-way solenoid valves from GC Valves feature a special compensating top seal that yields longer life and dependable performance. This exclusive seal is metal-supported to off-set damage that may be caused by pressure and temperature. Because it floats, stress and warping are eliminated and a proper seal is assured.
- our S33 "all ports in the body" design means that fluid lines do not need to be disconnected to change out coils or repair internal parts
- S20 3-way valves offer uncommonly high flows in a 3-way brass body
- M20 & M21 piloted diaphragm valves for liquids and gases have high flow 3/4" orifices (including 0 pressure differential operation) not found in most other manufacturer's 3-way offerings
- Custom offerings include "HIFlo-LoFlo" valves, manifolded, and many other options for most line fluids.

SENSIBLE PRECAUTIONS FOR SOLENOID VALVE USERS
Solenoid valves are your fastest acting option when controlling flow, they can be repaired in-line (without breaking plumbing connections in most designs), and they can be less costly than other electrically operated valves.
But there are a few measures that can increase your satisfaction with solenoid valves:
1 -- install strainers or filters to prevent foreign materials from entering the valve and interfering with operation
2 – avoid teflon tape: those stringy leftover pieces can travel downstream and hang up in the valve
3 – use pipe dope sparingly: globs of it in the line can affect solenoid valves and other control elements
4 -- add check valves if it is important to prevent back flow through the solenoid valve
5 -- plumb solenoid valves in series (double-block) when leakage is unacceptable
6 -- add manual override to allow operation when power is off
7 -- ask for a plated operator to protect special grades of stainless steel from corrosion.
And be sure to let you distributor or region manager know about everything in the line fluid: additives in air, water or other fluids can change the soft-seal requirements.
SLOW CLOSING VALVES
GC Valves offers slow closing designs in the most common sizes. Choose our “4” brass body to help reduce water hammer in 3/8” through 2” NPT. Stainless Steel versions are also available in the larger pipe sizes.
ZERO PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DESIGNS
Many GC Valves solenoid valve designs are intended for tower and tank drains, closed loop systems and other low pressure applications where there may be little or no pressure differential to assist the valve in fully opening.

SOLENOID VALVE MANIFOLDS
GC Valves designs and manufactures standard and custom manifolds that incorporate solenoid valve operators. They are typically used to dispense a gas or liquid to several outlets – or to choose from several line fluids and
supply them to a single user. 2- and 3-way versions are available from 1/8” to ¾” NPT in stainless steel, aluminum, brass and man-made materials. Washing applications, sampling instrumentation, “feed and drain” operations, and many others use these products.

FFKM: SOLENOID VALVES WITH PERFLOURELASTOMER SEALS
FFKM seals have excellent resistance to high temperatures and chemicals. They are commonly used in
applications that involve contact with highly corrosive line fluids, or when high process temperatures are encountered. We offer them in Direct Acting S30 and S31
Series. Further information is available in the Application Guides on www.gcvalves.com.
GC Valves is offering flanged solenoid valves for applications up to 6” pipe. Cast iron is typically used in water applications. A limited range of stainless steel and steam valves are available. Contact the region office to submit your application for engineering review.
ORIFICE SIZE CONVERSIONS
CFA customers may be unfamiliar with the international orifice sizes that we use on direct acting valves. Here are the rough equivalents for inch vs. millimeter orifices:
1/32" = .8mm
3/64" = 1.2mm
1/16" = 1.6mm
5/64" = 2.0mm
3/32" = 2.4mm
1/8" = 3.0mm
5/23" = 4.0 mm
Of course, you should always test in any application to be sure that the valve isn't providing too much or too little flow. Many of our designs are available with a flow control option if you need to manually adjust the flow.
